We are an independent business owned by three dedicated beer and music enthusiasts who work closely with our staff to deliver a brilliant venue, beer selection and programme of events.

We aim to provide a safe and inclusive space for people to come and enjoy the best things in life and our drinks selection and events programme is vast and varied. We are proud to support artists and businesses locally and further afield.

We want Things Happen Here to be somewhere where people make beautiful connections and the best memories, have fun, share ideas and get inspired. We are committed to providing local jobs, supporting the creative industry, sourcing great beers and ensuring our community thrives.

HOW TO FIND US:

Visit Things Happen Here at Meadowbrook, Dartington, Devon, TQ9 6JD

We are based inside Meadowbrook Community Centre in Dartington village (not Dartington Estate) and are directly across the road from the Dartington Cider Press Centre, nearby Dartington Primary School.

PARKING:

There is a large public car park a minute away from the taproom, directly opposite Dartington Primary School. Parking is free after 6pm.

ACCESSIBILITY:

We have disabled toilet facilities, lots of outside space and seating and a large inside area but please note our bar is only accessible via two steps.

AGE RESTRICTIONS:

The taproom is family friendly but from 7.30pm inside it’s an adult space – families can continue to enjoy their visit at our outside tables.

Most evening events are 18 plus although some are 16 plus. See the event info on our What’s On page for details.

BEHAVIOUR:

Our taproom is an inclusive space. Racism, homophobia, hate speech. spiking, drugs and aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated. We are 100% anti arsehole.

Please don’t litter. Help us keep inside and outside clean by clearing up after yourselves.

Consider our neighbours and ourselves by keeping noise and disturbance to a minimum when leaving the building.

Respect each other and our team and have a great time.

fOOD:

Food is available from Pizzalogica Wednesday – Sunday and the Big Kebabski each Sunday. We also often have pop up street food in the summer, weather dependant, Friday – Sunday.

THERE’S A TICKETED EVENT ON BUT I JUST WANT TO VISIT AND BUY A DRINK:

At most ticketed events we can continue to admit you to buy a drink which you must then take outside.

We will though be unable to serve non ticket holders when an event is either sold out or particularly busy.

Non ticket holders will be asked to either buy a ticket to stay inside or move outside to continue enjoying your visit 30 mins prior to an event starting.

PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILMING:

Unless specified otherwise at an artists or our request, photography and filming is permitted. If you are asked to stop by a member of staff, please follow our guidance. If you are asked to stop by a fellow customer, please respect their choice. If sharing on social media, please tag Things Happen Here.

LOST PROPERTY:

If you have lost something at the taproom please ring 01803 302881 and we will look for it. We keep lost property until our collection becomes too large at which point we dispose of it or send it to the local clothes bank. Once it’s gone it’s gone!

HOW TO GET HERE:

We are a 25 minute walk/10 minute cycle ride from Totnes on the Totnes – Dartington cycle path. The path can be easily accessed from Totnes train station.

The X80 Gold bus stops in Dartington Village. Check bus times here.

Marathon Cabs and Brutus Cabs offer a 10% discount to people travelling to and from Things Happen Here – plenty of other taxi companies exist!

THE LOCAL AREA:

We have a large play park and grass open space right outside our front door with plenty of outside seating. We also have Pizzalogica on site serving Pizza Wednesday – Sunday, The Big Kebabski serving award winning vegan food each Sunday plus in the summer, other pop up food vendors.

There is also a snooker room with a full size table above our taproom which can be booked here.

There are two local shops and a bakery serving food as well as a garage to refuel, a bus stop for local travel, a kids pump track, 5 a side football pitch and plenty of green space all a few minutes walk from the taproom.

The Dartington Estate and Cider Press Centre shops can be accessed directly across the road from the taproom and there are walking and cycle paths to Totnes, Staverton and beyond which are easily accessible from the taproom.

There are a number of accomodation options available in the area if you want to visit us and stay over including a beautiful campsite on the Dartington Estate a mere 10 minutes walk from Things Happen Here.

If you have longer to explore the local area and want to visit the big city (Totnes!) we would point you in the direction of the following to get you started…

The Curator is a lovely cafe which serves great food and coffee. Kommune is a small coffee shop which is also home to The Black Bird Collective pop up record shop. The Bull Inn is a restaurant and pub serving organic beers and food. Totnes Cinema offers an eclectic selection of films and events and Drift Records is the indie record shop behind Seachange Festival while The Angel Gallery offers up a quirky programme of events in a quirky space. There are also plenty of other cool things slightly further afield incuding Five Walls Hop House, Tams Kitchen, Wild Artichokes, The Old Warehouse, Rafikis, Ashburton Arts Centre, Gnash Comics, Ivybridge Brewing Co, The Tally Ho , SPS Records, Phoenix Sounds and Maltings Taphouse.

 

DOGS:

Dogs are the owners responsibility at all times. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a lead inside the taproom. Dogs are not allowed inside at any evening events.

I DON’T LIKE BEER! IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I CAN DRINK?!?

Yes! We have a great selection of all of your favourite drinks available including wine, spirits, soft drinks and kombucha.

Please see the individual listing on our What’s On page for ticket info. Tickets for most events are available to buy both online and from the taproom.

BOOKING A TABLE OR PLANNING A SPECIAL VISIT:

Depending on what events we have on, we can book tables. To book a table or request info please ring on 01803 302881.

We take no responsibility for your disappointment/travel costs/thirst if you have travelled to visit us only to find you can’t get into the taproom as an event is particularly busy, has sold out or something has unexpectedly changed.

If planning a special visit we strongly recommend you check what events we have on, ring us for info or check our socials. Sometimes events get postponed or things change that are outside of our control. When we can, we try to let people know what’s going on via our socials – please check them!

 

CLOAKROOM:

There are coat hangers but no cloakroom facilities. Your property remains your responsibility at all times.
